Please see this helpful blog from People Powered Retrofit in Manchester about fitting a heat pump, and how to tell whether you are ‘heat pump ready’.

The installer of the heat pump will carry out a heat loss calculation in order to determine the size of the unit required to heat your home and will usually advise on measures you can take to improve its thermal efficiency.
An approximate heat loss calculation will be carried out by a Retrofit Assessor when preparing a Whole House Retrofit Plan, if you choose to go down this route. See here for information about Retrofit Assessors who can help you.
Elite Renewables, who have talked before to RKT members about installing heat pumps, have developed a tool which you can try out:

“We often get asked for advice beyond a standard quote. People want a clear picture of:
- – Which upgrades actually make sense for their home (e.g. solar, battery add-ons, heat pumps)?
- – Which energy tariffs make the most sense for each combination of equipment?
- – What the real-world costs and savings could look like under different scenarios?
- -The smartest order to do things (e.g. “Should I add solar or a battery to my existing heat pump system now, or wait?”)
So we have built a new tool: The Elite Home Energy Assessmentwhich answers these questions by modelling lots of different scenarios and combinations based on your home’s energy use.
All you need to do is fill in a short questionnaire about your home and we’ll do all of the modelling for you and send you the report.
We’ve been testing it in the office with our own homes and have seen some pretty big savings possible from things like adding a battery and using tariff arbitrage to existing heat pump systems.
If you want us to run the analysis on your home the link to the questionnaire is here.
Then give us a few days to carry out the analysis and send you a report.”
